Justice Jiya Lal Bhardwaj

Born on 20th August, 1969 in Nalagarh, District Solan, H.P. Passed Matriculation Examination from Government High School, Deoth, District Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh. Graduated from Government Degree College, Sanjauli, Shimla in 1991. Passed LL.B. from Department of Law, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla in 1994. Enrolled as an Advocate with the Bar Council of Himachal Pradesh in 1994. Practiced in Shimla, primarily in the High Court of Himachal Pradesh, District Courts, H.P. Administrative Tribunal, Commissions and other Fora. Have also appeared before the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in various cases. Remained panel counsel for the High Court of Himachal Pradesh, legal advisor to various organizations such as Himachal Pradesh University, Kangra Central Cooperative Bank and LIC of India. Engaged by the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited, Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation Limited, Special Area Development Authorities and Education Societies formed by the Government of Himachal Pradesh to defend their cases. Was appointed as Amicus Curiae in many cases of public importance. Was appointed as Commissioner by the High Court of Himachal Pradesh in several cases. Was designated as Senior Advocate in December, 2022. Was elevated as Judge of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh and assumed office as such on 6th October, 2025.
