Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas

Born on 05.12.1968, Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas completed his B.A.L, L.L.B. From the Government Law College, Ernakulam in the year 1992 with 1st Rank and Gold medal in the University. He was enrolled as an Advocate on 29-03-1992 and commenced his legal practice in the year 1992 at kottayam, under Adv. P.V.Thomas, a doyen of the Kottayam Bar. He was the recipient of the 1997 British Council Chevening Scholarship and underwent study and training in English Commercial Law and Practice at the College of Law, York and at Hammond Suddards, London. He Shifted his practice to the High Court of Kerala at Ernakulam in the Year 1995 and established the firm Bechu Kurian & Co in the year 1998. He had extensive practice in all fields of law ranging from Constitutional law, Administrative law, Taxation laws, Corporate law, Arbitration, Environmental laws, Civil Law, Criminal law, and Maritime law. He was the Standing Counsel for Kerala University from 2014 to 2015. He was designated as a Senior Advocate by the High Court of Kerala on 19.08.2015. He has appeared before various Courts and Tribunals within and outside the State of Kerala, including the Supreme Court, National Company Law Appellate Tribunal, National Green Tribunal etc. He was the Law Reporter for Kerala Law Journel during 1997-2002. He was the founder and Governing Council member of the Indian Institute of Maritime Law and was also a member of the Indian Institute of Arbitration and Mediation. He was also a member of various social organisations including Round Table India and the Rotary International. He was sworn in as an Additional Judge of the High Court of Kerala on 06.03.2020.
