Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy got relief from the High Court in a defamation case filed by the BJP for his alleged defamatory comments against Union Minister Amit Shah during the Lok Sabha election campaign in 2024.

Justice K. Lakshman of the Telangana High Court granted an interim stay till June 23 on criminal proceedings against him. The case was filed alleging that Mr. Reddy damaged the reputation of Mr. Shah by alleging that BJP would abolish reservations if voted to power in Telangana.

Mr. Reddy apparently referred to a morphed video of the Home Minister and displayed it in support of his argument “damaging the BJP’s image” among people. A defamation case was filed based on a complaint by BJP General Secretary Kasam Venkateshwarlu and the trial was under way.

The Chief Minister then moved the High Court seeking to quash the case and stay the proceedings. The High Court had already granted him exemption from personal appearance before the trial court. The case will be reviewed after June 23.
