The Kerala High Court on Monday dismissed as withdrawn a petition filed by actor Sreenath Bhasi seeking anticipatory bail, apprehending his arrest in connection with the seizure of hybrid cannabis from a woman at Alappuzha.
When the petition came up before Justice P.V. Kunhikrishnan, the petitioner’s counsel sought permission of the court to withdraw it and the court then dismissed it as withdrawn. According to the actor’s petition, he feared his arrest in view of the statement reportedly given by Christina, alias Tasleema Sultan, who was arrested by the the Excise Enforcement and Anti-Narcotic Special Squad, Alappuzha district.
WhatsApp chat
The petitioner said she had reportedly stated before the excise officials that she knew almost all the actors in the Malayalam film industry and had sold them drugs. He learnt from the media that the excise official had also found a WhatsApp chat on the woman’s phone regarding a transaction of cannabis with the petitioner.
He said in his petition that the arrested woman had obtained his number from a friend of his and told him that she was a fan of the petitioner. She had recently called him and offered to sell him cannabis. Thereafter, she sent a WhatsApp message, “do the petitioner needs”. He thought the woman was teasing him and replied “wait”. He was innocent and had never indulged in the sale of any drugs.
