Justice Devashis Baruah

Born in a family, where his grandfather Late B.D.S. Barooah, retired as a District Judge and his father Late Justice D.N. Baruah, retired as Judge of the Gauhati High Court; Justice Devashis Baruah completed his schooling from Don Bosco School, Guwahati in the year 1989, his graduation in B.A. (History) from the Cotton College, Guwahati in the year 1994 and obtained his LL.B from Campus Law Centre, Delhi University in the year, 1997.

After obtaining his Law degree, he started practicing before the Gauhati High Court at its Principal Seat as well as before its outlying benches. He also appeared regularly before the Civil Courts and Tribunals. He practiced in diverse fields such as civil, constitutional, taxation, arbitration and company matters.

He was the Standing Counsel of the Election Commission of India since 2009 till his elevation. He was also the Additional Advocate General of Assam at the time of his elevation.

He was elevated as an Additional Judge, Gauhati High Court on 13.10.2021.
