Justice S. Sathi Kumar

He was born on 18.07.1963 to V.N.Sukumara Kurup, retired from Indian Army, later retired from M/s. Ashok Leyland Ltd., Ennore, Chennai – 600 057 and Mrs.A.P.Thankamma, home maker. He is the second son among five children of his parents.

He had completed his schooling at Vellaiyan Chettiyar Higher Secondary School, Tiruvotriyur, Chennai – 600019. He obtained his degree, B.Sc., Zoology from Sir Theagaroya College, New Washermenpet, Chennai – 600 021 and Bachelor of Law from Dr. Ambedkar Law College, Chennai – 600 104.

After completion of B.L. Degree enrolled as an Advocate on the Rolls of the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on 30.03.1988. After enrolment joined as a Junior to Thiru. U.Thiyagarajan, Advocate, High Court, Madras and practised exclusively on the Civil side in the High Court and City Civil Court from 1988 to 1990. Then joined the office of Thiru.A.K.S.Thahir, Advocate on the Criminal Law side and practised under him in Criminal Courts in and around Chennai for a period of one year. He had practised in the Criminal law as well as Civil side in various Courts in and around Chennai. He was selected as District Munsif/Judicial Magistrate by Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission in the year 1994, the first time the TNPSC has conducted written examination for the post of District Munsif/Judicial Magistrate in the State of Tamil Nadu.

He joined as Additional District Munsif, Salem and served there till 1996. Subsequently transferred and served at Kallakurichi, Ponneri, Vellore, Gingee. On 18.07.2005, he was promoted as Senior Civil Judge/Sub-Judge. He served as Sub Judge, Bhavani, Harur, as Assistant Judge, City Civil Court and as Chief Judicial Magistrate at Sivaganga and Thiruvallur. He was appointed as District Judge on promotion in the year 2012. As District Judge, he was appointed to the newly constituted Special Court for Motor Accidents Claims Cases exclusively dealing with fatal cases at Krishnagiri. Then transferred as District Judge, Kanniyakumari at Nagarkoil. Then as Principal District Judge, Madurai. Before elevation he was Special Judge, Special Court under TNPID Act Chennai.

His wife G.Nalini was a practicing Lawyer at Chennai and suspended her practice due to his elevation. Their only son Mr.Pravin Kumar is a Software Engineer employed in Tata Consultancy Services.
